The head of Heracles, wearing a lion’s hide and perhaps bearing the features of Alexander, is engraved on the obverse. Hercules is a Roman hero and god, the most popular figure from ancient Greek mythology. He was the equivalent of the Greek divine hero Heracles, who was the son of Zeus and the mortal woman Alcmene.
