The donkey is roaming near the olive tree. The olive tree in Ancient Greece was a symbol of the Olympic ideal, since an olive branch was the only prize for the Olympic champions. The olive symbolizes peace, victory, honor and prosperity. By the second millennium BC, the donkey was brought to Europe, possibly at the same time as viticulture was introduced, as the donkey is associated with the Syrian god of wine, Dionysus.
